Let Food Be Your Medicine: Dietary Changes Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease by Don Colbert

This book was released less than a month ago. I was able to get an early release of it for review and have enjoyed reading and learning these past couple of weeks. If you don’t have much knowledge about “clean” or healthy eating, this book and lifestyle suggested may be hard to grasp or overwhelming. I know a couple of years ago, I probably wouldn’t have considered it. But over the years I have read a lot of heath books and have seen first hand with my own health and family; how important it is to stay away from certain foods and food chemicals.

This is my first book that I’ve read by this author who also happens to be a medical doctor. I was surprised how many health issue he has had as a doctor. I guess I just assumed he would be naturally healthy. Dr. Colbert spent many years and a lot of money doing his own personal research and testing his theories about eating certain foods and how our body responds to food positive or negative. I thought this would be a book that I would want to skim, but I have thoroughly enjoyed reading every page about his personal journey, his findings and his suggestions.

Dr. Colbert suggests applying the Mediterranean diet and includes some modifications based on food allergies or what specific symptom or disease you ware wanting to treat. He has chapters on how to beat Cardiovascular diseases, arthritis and autoimmune, type 2 diabetes, fighting cancer, dementia and Alzheimer’s, ADHD and Autism, mental illness.

He also includes a 21 day meal plan, shopping lists, supplement list and pesticide list while shopping for fresh veggies and fruits. I will be looking over the 21 day plan again with my husband and we will be trying the recipes and suggestions. I personally can not have dairy or gluten so I’m looking forward to trying the Mediterranean diet like he suggests. I hesitate to use the term “diet” because I feel like this kind of eating should be a lifestyle change if you’re going to commit to eating like that.

As I was reading the book about foods and inflammation and some of his suggestions (like not eating the same foods every single day), I had a lot of “ah ha” moments and it made a lot of sense. I can’t wait to try his meal plan and recipes. He uses a lot of normal meats, veggies and fruits-nothing too weird.

If you’re ready to be healthy and want to learn about food chemicals and inflammation, then I think you will really enjoy this book!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

About the Book
