“The Great Walk Summer Challenge” with Walk Strong Roanoke FAQ & Tracker

Last year Leslie Sansone started “The Great Walk 100 Day Challenge” and it was such a big hit with my Walk15 group, that I’ve decided to host another one this year.

My “The Great Walk Summer Challenge” for 100 days starts THIS SUNDAY May 27th and ends on Monday September 3rd. You will need the 3 page tracker (link is below) to record your DAILY MILES and if you want weekly check ins for accountability, then RSVP “Going” to my Facebook event to get updates and a chance to win some prizes!

Here is the (3 page) 100 day The Great Walk Challenge TRACKER pdf to print off:
100 day walk challenge calendar

This is what my calendar looks like so I can see it every day to remind me to record my daily miles:

Here are the specifics and rules for this 100 day challenge:

1. Do I really have to walk 100 days in a row? What about REST DAYS?
**The goal is to do at least 1 mile or 15 mins of walking every day for 100 days in a row. But not all days have to be intense fast walking. On rest days you should do a 15 min light walk/stroll to allow your body to rest. As always, listen to your body and even if you can’t walk 100 days in a row, just do the best you can!

2. What am I tracking on my calendar? Miles, steps or minutes?
**You will be recording your MILES on your calendar.
2,000 steps = 1 mile
15 minutes of brisk walking that raises your heart rate = 1 mile
Walk at Home DVDs or Walk15® Classes will figure out the mile system for you in 15 min/1 mile sections.

3. What if I don’t have a fitness tracker like a Fitbit or Garmin to count my miles or steps?
**No problem! Just set your watch for 15 minutes and go walking, jogging, or running!

4. What does “intentional exercise” mean?
**Intentional exercise means you have planned ahead with what you are going to do for your exercise that day. You will only count the miles of exercise that you actually do, NOT your end of the day total miles or steps according to your Fitbit or Garmin tracker. For example: If I do a 2 mile Leslie Sansone dvd, than I will put (2) miles on my tracker for that day, even though at the end of the day my Fitbit may say I walked 4 miles by bedtime. Walking around at work or around my house does not count as “intentional exercise” since its necessary daily movement.

5. What exercises and activities count towards this 100 day challenge?
**Since this is a walking challenge; indoor and outdoor walking, jogging, running, using the treadmill, and specific fitness walking dvds (Leslie Sansone or Jessica Smith) count towards this challenge.
Gym classes and other workouts are great to do, but please do not include them with your daily miles count.

6. What if I don’t have any indoor walking dvds?
**No problem! If you have access to a computer, you can watch FREE workout videos by Leslie Sansone and Jessica Smith.
You can find their videos here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/walkathomemedia/videos
and
https://www.youtube.com/user/jessicasmithtv/videos

7. Do I have to live in the USA to participate?
**No! anyone, anywhere, any age can participate. However, any online prizes and drawings that I do are for USA mailing addresses only-sorry!

8. Do I have to click “going” on the Facebook event to participate?
**No, but if you want weekly accountability and a chance to win prizes, you will have to. EVERY WEEK for the 100 days I will post a Week 1, Week 2, etc. picture post so everyone can comment underneath the picture to report their weekly miles and ask any questions.
Week 1 will be Sunday May 27th thru Saturday June 2.
Week 2 will be Sunday June 3 thru Saturday June 9.
etc.

9. Who is going to monitor our miles for this challenge?
**YOU ARE! I am not going to be the mile tracker police.
I am busy mom, working full time, blogger, and Walk15 Master Level Fitness Instructor. I do not have the time to answer the same questions about the challenge over and over again, nor do I have the time to monitor or check on everyone’s miles.
Just read the rules and FAQ above and keep sharing this blog post with your friends and others who may have questions. The purpose of this challenge is to stay accountable as a group and to have fun this summer!

This challenge is meant to be difficult BUT DOABLE! It will take planning and dedication of your part to plan ahead and intentionally exercise for 100 days in a row, or as much as you can. Staying consistent with walking and your exercising is one of the best things you can do for your body to lose fat and extra weight.

So what are you waiting for? Lets WALK STRONG this summer and walk towards better health!!

Print off your miles tracker above, go RSVP to the Facebook event, and lets start together on Sunday!
