MY REVIEW

This was a very different advent devotional and I loved it! There are 25 devotionals/days which are divided up into 4 parts: The Place of Christmas, The Prophecies of Christmas, The People of Christmas, and The Purpose of Christmas.

I liked that at the end of each day she includes a “moment for wonder” and a prayer. Not only am I learning something different each day, I’m also reflecting and pondering.

This devotional will put you in the holiday spirit and remind you about the true meaning of Christmas, Christ’s birth and His love for us. I learned some new things reading the devotional and I know you will enjoy it too!

The Pursuit of Miss Parish (Aprons & Veils) by Grace Hitchcock

The Pursuit of Miss Parish: A Victorian Harvey Girls Romance (Aprons & Veils) by Grace Hitchcock

MY REVIEW:
I can’t get enough of this Aprons and Veils series! I love hearing about The Harvey House girls adventures and hope there will be more in this series!
I have read book one and although the main character of that book is mentioned in this book two, they can both be read as stand alone books.
I loved reading about the adventures of Belle as she navigates her new life in New Mexico as a mail order bride. She only has one friend so she doesn’t know who is a new friend and who is a foe in her new town.
Colt Lawson is the other main character and as we get to know him throughout various chapters, I started hoping the two of them would end up together.
This clean, historic story is about love, adventure, second chances and having faith. Highly recommend. I loved it!

ABOUT THE BOOK:
With dreams of love and a hope for belonging, shy Belle Parish leaves her position as a maid in Charleston to travel to New Mexico with her best friend to become mail-order brides. Colt Lawson’s letters hold great promise and while his devilishly handsome face matches his picture, something does not add up. Discovering his lie only moments before they wed, Belle flees the church and straight into the Castañeda Hotel Harvey House. Giving up the prospect on ever marrying, she dons her nun-like uniform and focuses on her role as a Harvey Girl waitress until a strong Texas Ranger rides into her life.

Colt Lawson didn’t want to send that letter to Belle Parish in the first place, but her first response had all but captured his heart. When he is left standing at the altar alone, he is left with two choices—either release his dream of a love marriage, or attempt to win her heart. Wooing her would be a lot easier if that Texas Ranger wasn’t back in town. Who wants a dusty rancher with a past when she could have a shining knight in a Stetson?

MY REVIEW

I have read most, if not all of the Amish Country Justice series by this author and I love her books!!
They have great action and suspense with likable characters and interesting storylines that keep my interest from beginning to end. I liked getting to know the main characters, Addie and her son Oliver, along with bounty hunter Isaiah.
Isaiah‘s extended family members mentioned in this book are characters from other books, so that was fun to make that connection. Although this is a series, they can all be read as stand alone books.
“Hunted at Christmas” had plenty of action as Addie, Oliver, and Isaiah are all running for their lives against contracted killers as they try to figure out who wants to kill Addie and why. Twists and turns, clean Amish fiction with light romance. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend this book and any books in this series!

“Revelation Is My Flashlight” by Sierra Wilson

“Revelation Is My Flashlight” by Sierra Wilson (Author), Danika Runyan (Illustrator)

This poetic kids book about revelation is easy to understand with beautiful pictures. My 13 year old son and I really enjoyed reading it together. He said he liked that it was “to the point” and he also enjoyed the pictures.

One of our favorite pages said this:
“reading from the scriptures
helps my flashlight glow.
The words of Christ teach me
the things I need to know.”

At the end of the book are learning resources for families which are awesome for family home evening lessons, primary lessons or just further discussion with the kids.

It includes: What is revelation? How does revelation come? What can we do to prepare to receive revelation? Also includes a list of scriptures about revelation, general authority quotes, discussion questions, and an activity idea.

This hardback book would be perfect for any family of any age! We really enjoyed reading it together. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this ebook. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

About the Book:
Sometimes life feels like the night. I can’t see where to go. But God gave me a special tool to help me see and know. The tool is revelation. It’s like a shining light. The Holy Ghost points the way, showing me what’s right. Equip children of all ages with the knowledge that no matter how dark life might seem, all they need to do is follow the guiding light of the Holy Ghost and the revelation that can be found in Christ’s teachings. This inspiring poem together with engaging illustrations are accompanied by question prompts, learning activities, and words from General Authorities to guide further discussion of the blessings of revelation.

About the Author:
Sierra started talking early and has been a storyteller ever since. She loves to teach and work with children, and this love has shaped her life from working as a high school English and history teacher and children’s art teacher to serving as a church children’s leader and a mother. Sierra is passionate about writing, art, hiking, family, and eating entirely too much chocolate. She currently lives with her husband, four kids, two cats, two fish, and a bearded dragon in Alberta, Canada.
