“When I Fall in Love” by Susan May Warren. A Christiansen Family novel book #3

“When I fall in Love” follows the story of Grace & Max and Raina & Casper; as well as mentions characters from the previous two books in this series.

This can be read as a stand alone book or as book 3 of the Christiansen Family series. I haven’t read the previous two books and was able to follow the family dynamics and story line just fine; although now I want to go back and read books 1 and 2 because I loved this book so much!

I loved reading about the personal struggles, family relationships, and faith building experiences that the characters went thru in this book. It felt very real and demonstrated the struggles that some of us go thru and how we can get thru those hard times by relying on our faith. There are references about having faith in God and the characters beliefs, but I did not find it too much or too preachy in this book.

I love that most of the Grace and Max story is centered in Hawaii and during the 3 weeks they attend a cooking retreat. It was fun to read about the different Hawaiian recipes they made and it made me want to try some new things in my own kitchen.

I really enjoyed reading this fun, romantic, clean christian book and would recommend!

The next book-book 4 of this series called “Always on my mind” will be released in February. It will continue the Raina story, as well as others. I can’t wait!!

About the book:

Hawaii was the last place Grace Christiansen ever imagined she’d vacation, much less fall in love. But when her family surprises her with a cooking retreat in paradise, she is pulled-or maybe yanked-away from her predictable, safe life and thrown headfirst into the adventure of a lifetime.
Max Sharpe may make his living on the ice as a pro hockey player, but he feels most at home in the kitchen. Which is why he lives for the three-week culinary vacation he takes each year in Hawaii. Upon being paired with Grace for a cooking competition, Max finds himself drawn to her passion, confidence, and perseverance. But just when Grace dares to dream of a future beyond her hometown, Max pulls away.
Wrestling with personal demons, Max fights against opening his heart to a love he knows he should never hope for. And as his secrets unfold, Grace is torn between the safe path in front of her and what her heart truly desires. If love means sacrificing her ideal happily ever after, Grace’s faith will face its toughest test yet.

The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron-book review

I read this book in almost one night because I was so intrigued with the story line and the history of the war.

The Butterfly and the Violin goes back and forth between two story lines-Sera in modern day time and Adele in the 1940s-both story lines merge by the end of the book. I would describe this book as being romantic, powerful and tragic. Both characters learned to rely on their faith of God and others around them to get them thru very hard times.

I learned alot about the history of the concentration camps and liked reading the authors notes at the end of book about Holocaust art and women orchestras at concentration camps.

This book was not something I typically read, but I was drawn into it early on and really enjoyed reading it! I would highly recommend it!

About the book: A mysterious painting breathes hope and beauty into the darkest corners of Auschwitz—and the loneliest hearts of Manhattan.
Manhattan art dealer Sera James watched her world crumble at the altar two years ago, and her heart is still fragile. Her desire for distraction reignites a passion for a mysterious portrait she first saw as a young girl—a painting of a young violinist with piercing blue eyes.
In her search for the painting, Sera crosses paths with William Hanover, the grandson of a wealthy California real estate mogul, who may be the key to uncovering the hidden masterpiece. Together, Sera and William slowly unravel the story behind the painting’s subject: Austrian violinist Adele Von Bron.
A darling of the Austrian aristocracy, talented violinist, and daughter to a high-ranking member of the Third Reich, Adele risks everything when she begins smuggling Jews out of Vienna. In a heartbeat, her life of prosperity and privilege dissolves into a world of starvation and barbed wire.
As Sera untangles the secrets behind the painting, she finds beauty in the most unlikely of places: in the grim camps of Auschwitz and in the inner recesses of her own troubled heart.

My thoughts about EveryMove:
I signed up for the Free EveryMove app a couple of months ago. I love that it syncs to my facebook, twitter, fitbit, myfitnesspal, and runkeeper apps. There’s many more apps to choose from as well.

Because I exercise almost every day I’ve been able to earn several rewards-8 rewards actually. I haven’t used all of them, but I have gotten some great discounts on some things like a Barre3 kit/subscription and a POUND exercise dvd pack. I’m also waiting on my free LUV dream flats.

The only complaint that I have about the EveryMove program is that I wish they offered more free rewards, not just discounts. Sometimes I earn a discount and then don’t end up using it because I don’t want to buy any products from the company’s website so my discount goes to waste. 🙁 I think that the more popular this app gets, hopefully the better the incentives will be!!

The website is super easy to use and it’s fun to interact with my EveryMove buddies.
All you have to do is go to the website and sign up for your free account! Start logging your activities and you are on the way to earning rewards!! It’s that simple!!

If you want to “friend” me on EveryMove, my name is “Rachel Williamson DeVaughn”.

Day 20 check in for #TheDanielPlan and win a prize pack!

It’s time for our second check in for The Daniel Plan program! It will be similar to my last check in post that we did for day 10.

Day 20 was yesterday on Saturday July 19th so it’s time to evaluate how we’ve done and what can be done better.

Have you been able to finish reading the whole The Daniel Plan book?
What did you like about it and how did it help you?

I loved making notes and learning about the 5 different essentials and how they all help towards a healthier more fit lifestyle.

I have been TRYING to use The Daniel Plan journal every day because when I use it, it helps me be more mindful of what I’m eating and what I’m thankful for. I really hope to be able to remember to write in it every day before bed.

One of the essentials is Food of course.
Was it hard for you to follow the nutrition plan?  Have you done any better with eating healthier these last 10 days than the previous first 10 days?
I have been trying to eat off the “approved” list of foods and eat clean but not following the books exact menu. I did eat something this week for blog review which had gluten in it. It made me feel very sleepy and gross afterwards, so I’m glad I have been able to be mostly gluten and dairy free. It’s getting alot easier than it use to be.
Did you try any new foods or recipes?
Another essential to the program is FITNESS.
I used the hashtag #thedanielplan and #danielstrong on my fitness Instagram pictures, if you want to check out what I’ve been doing.
I just ended week 2 of Jillian Michaels Body Revolution which is doing strength training 4 days per week and cardio 2 days per week. The workouts are only 30 minutes so I’m also doing other exercises.
What workouts did you do?
Did you exercise every day?
One of the things I like about using my journal is that it asks me every day for one thing I’m thankful for.
What are you thankful for today?

I hope you have had an awesome time living The Daniel Plan Lifestyle. Our next check in will be on day 30.

For the next 10 days continue to eat healthy and follow the food plan or list of foods as best you can. Try to do some form of exercise 5-6 times per week. and don’t forget to weigh in and measure every 10 days as well.

Don’t forget to enter my rafflecopter below to win some prizes for participating in this challenge.

Every 10 days we will have a check in and another prize to win. USA addresses only and you can win more than once!! Good luck!
