I got a little behind with my reading and posting about my Book Club with author Darlene Schacht.
April 6-12 discuss Chapter 9 and 10
April 13-19 discuss Chapter 11 and 12
Today’s Challenge: Journal some of these Bible verses on patience and meditate on them throughout the week.
Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
“When something is troubling us we want it resolved as soon as possible. The trying of our patience is one of the most difficult tasks for us to endure, but it builds character in those who are exercised by it.”
“Practicing the little things prepare us for the bigger things in life.”
The author lists 5 ways to practice patience which I thought were very good. The first two (Ride the burn and pray without ceasing) were my favorite.
Ch 10- A Humble Wife

Today’s Challenge: Pray about some of the things you may need to unpack in your life and ask God to strengthen you in these areas.
Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
“…leaving a mark on this world is different than leaving a mark on the heart of another.”
“Humility is found in many forms such as modesty, meekness, humbleness, lowliness of mind, and submission.”
“Humility, submission and lowliness of mind can only occur when the soul is triumphant over the flesh-when our desire to come first is put aside for the good of another.”
Today’s Challenge: Whatever the cross is that you carry, pray asking God to equip you with faith for the journey. Take your eyes off of the world and what’s expected of you.
Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
“Our job is to love our husbands according to the will of God Today-right now-and to trust Him with our future. The heart of our husband is in the palm of God’s hand to do with as He will.”
Ch 12- A Forgiving Wife
Today’s Challenge: Practice forgiving quickly. Forgiving doesn’t always mean that you agree with, or excuse, someone else’s behavior. It means that you are giving up your desire for vengeance and leaving it in the hands of the Lord.
Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
“Forgiveness has to start in our own hearts before we can pour it out to another. Anger is natural, but letting it fester is a dangerous thing. It’s important to heal fractures in your relationship before they get out of control.”
“The world doesn’t revolve around us. Everything in it including our loves should revolve around pleasing God. When we live in harmony with our husbands according to God’s plan for our marriage we are pleasing the Lord.”
About the Book
The Virtuous Life of a Christ-Centered Wife is written in the format of an 18-part study for daily or weekly reflection. Not only is it a powerful tool for personal growth, it’s also an ideal study-guide for small groups!
Each lesson leads you through one virtue at a time, offering you applicable and inspiring ways for a wife to grow closer to God and her husband. The virtues discussed are these:
• Purity
• Self-control
• Love
• Diligence
• Patience
• Kindness
• Humility
• Faith
• Forgiveness
• Joy
• Passion
• Radiance
• Encouragement
• Balance
• Goodness
• Trust
• Courage
Virtue calls us to action. As we exercise each one, they bring our flesh in line with our Spirit.
It’s one thing to know what’s good, and it’s another to walk in obedience to the knowledge that we have received. Not always easy, but obedience to our faith is always worth the effort it takes!
Every lesson concludes with the S-O-A-P method of study, prompting you to dig deeper as follows:
S – Scripture: You’ll be provided with a portion of Scripture to meditate on.
O – Observation: This is a good chance to journal your thoughts. What are some personal observations? If you’re in a group study this might include some things you’d like to share with the others.
A – Application: How can you apply this to your life? Are there changes you’d like to make? Is God prompting you to focus on something?
P – Prayer: Each lesson includes a short prayer in hopes that you will invite God to play a vital role in this personal journey.
