Weeks 1 and 2 of “The Virtuous Life of a Christ Centered Wife” by Darlene Schacht- Book Club (chapters 1-4)

The Virtuous Life of a Christ-Centered Wife:

18 Powerful Lessons for Personal Growth

While I was on vacation I started reading the book pictured above. Darlene started a Facebook book club 2 weeks ago but I just got the book a week ago so I’m playing catch up. We are reading and discussing 2 chapters per week.

Heres the schedule so far:

March 10-15 discuss Chapter 1 and 2
March 17-22 discuss Chapter 3 and 4

I read the Preface which explains the SOAP method which I love because it helps me to make notes and underline in the books that I read to help me remember and apply the principles in my life.

CHAPTER ONE: “What is Virtue?”

Lesson One Blog link discussion:
http://timewarpwife.com/?p=2422

Today’s Challenge: Examine your life to see what temptation you’re facing, and what steps you can take to walk a victorious life. Take this to prayer. – See more at: http://timewarpwife.com/?p=2422#sthash.pXfX6Tag.dpuf

Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
There were a couple sections that really stood out to me. First she stated its not easy to control our temper or exercise patience etc., but the more that we exercise those muscles, (just like training our muscles during exercise), the easier it will get for us. I can definitely relate to that when I visualize how I practice and progress with my muscles and exercising. Great analogy!!

“Virtue is all about our behavior. It’s an act of yielding our lives to our principles, which is not always easy, but always rewarding. There’s a will to do good in every one of us, but whether or not we choose to exercise and develop that goodness determines our character.”

“…we’re given a choice to either continue down the path we’re going or to make changes that develop stronger character and a happier life.”

CHAPTER TWO: A Kind Wife

Lesson Two Blog link discussion:
http://timewarpwife.com/?p=2483

Today’s Challenge: Take opportunities as they come up to offer kindness to others both in your marriage and outside the home. And do at least one thing that requires you to go out of your way this week to either help someone else or just brighten their day. – See more at: http://timewarpwife.com/?p=2483#sthash.1Z4yTVSW.dpuf

Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
“After a long day, do I offer his leftovers, or do I put in the effort to be his companion and friend?” (I NEED TO WORK ON THIS ONE!)

“…we have the ability to choose our attitude at any time for the good. When someone gets under our skin, we can be impatient and vindictive or we can exercise the virtue of kindness.”

7 habits of a kind wife according to the author:
-she’s affectionate
-she’s understanding
-she looks to God to sharpen her character
-she’s strengthened by prayer
-she knows that a kind word turns away wrath
-she builds her husband instead of tearing him down
-she’s not perfect, but she’s growing in grace

CHAPTER THREE: A Diligent Wife

Lesson Three blog link discussion:
http://timewarpwife.com/?p=2506

Today’s Challenge: Make your own list of things that might be distracting you from your walk with the Lord or putting a wedge in your marriage. Pray for courage, and take the necessary steps to put boundaries in place.

Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
“If you want to see change, give love a constant and earnest effort seasoned with prayer.”

“Throw off everything that is weighing you down, and grab hold of the Savior. He’ll bring you safely to shore.”

“…Diligence is focus.”

“A couple is definitely stronger when they’re clearly united with the same purpose and the same set of values.”

CHAPTER FOUR: A Self Controlled Wife

Lesson Four blog link discussion:
http://timewarpwife.com/?p=2560

Today’s Challenge: Look for ways in your life to practice self control, even small ways. Make a decision to change a few things and stick with it.

Some things that I underlined and liked in this chapter:
“If we’re only obeying God when it makes sense to us then we’re living to serve ourselves, not the Spirit. God’s laws don’t always make sense to us, quite often they require us to step out of our comfort one or to feel the sting of refinement.”

“Temporal happiness could never compare to the inner peace that comes from serving the Lord!”

“Putting away sin starts with a decision, and then it calls for self control.”

“A virtuous woman isn’t ruled by her passions, she passionately pursues an incomparable God. She is strong because she knows that she can do that she wants, but she chooses to do that which is good.”

About the Book
The Virtuous Life of a Christ-Centered Wife is written in the format of an 18-part study for daily or weekly reflection. Not only is it a powerful tool for personal growth, it’s also an ideal study-guide for small groups!
Each lesson leads you through one virtue at a time, offering you applicable and inspiring ways for a wife to grow closer to God and her husband. The virtues discussed are these:
• Purity
• Self-control
• Love
• Diligence
• Patience
• Kindness
• Humility
• Faith
• Forgiveness
• Joy
• Passion
• Radiance
• Encouragement
• Balance
• Goodness
• Trust
• Courage
Virtue calls us to action. As we exercise each one, they bring our flesh in line with our Spirit.
It’s one thing to know what’s good, and it’s another to walk in obedience to the knowledge that we have received. Not always easy, but obedience to our faith is always worth the effort it takes!

Every lesson concludes with the S-O-A-P method of study, prompting you to dig deeper as follows:
S – Scripture: You’ll be provided with a portion of Scripture to meditate on.
O – Observation: This is a good chance to journal your thoughts. What are some personal observations? If you’re in a group study this might include some things you’d like to share with the others.
A – Application: How can you apply this to your life? Are there changes you’d like to make? Is God prompting you to focus on something?
P – Prayer: Each lesson includes a short prayer in hopes that you will invite God to play a vital role in this personal journey.

Round 2, week 1 of #21dayfix Beachbody Fitness program by Autumn Calabrese

Started Round 2 last Monday March 24th. I took a week off to go to the beach and didn’t do very well with my eating while I was gone. 🙁 So I was excited to start back into the program and begin Round 2. My mom is still waiting for her kit, so I guess I’ll do Round 3 with her!!

I end up planning out my menu before the day starts and I eat alot of the same meals over and over again, so I’m not going to post as many pictures as I did for Round 1.

Two things I’m doing differently this round…
First, I changed what calorie bracket I’m eating from. I’m going to stay in the 1200-1499 calorie bracket which means less fruit and carbs.
Second, I’m going to do double workouts on most days so I workout out for more than 30 minutes. I’m also going to use heavier hand weights than I did in Round 1.

Here are some of my food pictures from this week:

My exercise pictures from round 2, week 1!

Double workout for Monday-Barre dvd

Friday double workout

I missed my Saturday workout of doing Dirty 30, but did a 30 min swim lesson with my 3 year old and then went shopping with the family! (LOL can you count shopping and holding all the bags as exercise??!!)

I am pleased with how most of my week went except for on Thurs and Saturday. I was sugar free for over a week but then had a cupcake on Thursday that my boss brought me! ARGH!! Then on saturday I was gone most of the day and didn’t log my food or use any of my containers!! BOOO!! I hate it when I don’t have a good eating week!! Ready for week 2!!

Follow up from Fabletics and Ellie Reviews from November

First, I almost never post negative reviews or feedbacks on companies because I don’t like to post negativity on my blog and peoples opinions and experiences are always different from some one elses… but I am going to discuss my PERSONAL opinion and reviews of Fabletics and Ellie because I’ve posted about them before and I’ve recommended them.

So back in November I posted about my two month subscription purchases from the new Fabletics site.
My post can be found here:
http://66.147.244.197/~empowfu5/2013/11/fabletics-2-month-review-with-pictures-new-exercise-clothes-subscription-with-savings-code-my-opinion-ellie-v-fabletics.html

It is now several months later and I haven’t been able to wear any of the clothes I purchased from them because its either too big or too small. The larges are too big around my waist but tight on my thighs and the mediums are too small. They must not be made for curvy girls. I tried Fabletics because I’ve been frustrated with Ellie’s customer service, lack of choices and slow shipping. I liked the Fabletics site, choices and fast shipping. However, I felt like some of the pictures were deceiving. I ordered a blue top and it was super long, not at all how they pictured it online. I decided to cancel after 2 months and practially had to go thru an act of congress and over 45 mins just to cancel my account. Once I did, I haven’t gotten any more charges on my credit card so that was good. They offered to send me a free outfit if I didn’t cancel, but honestly I didn’t want to call back again to cancel so I told her I wasn’t wearing the outfits I already purchased so it didn’t make sense at the time. Periodically I got on their website to check out the new stuff and I am tempted but then I remember I have enough workout clothes! 😉

Next onto Ellie…I have been ordering from them for over one year now. I was an “ambassdaor” for several months and had 3 different contacts with the company. They changed from PV Body to Ellie, then changed their prices, changed their website, now changed their subscription packages… and the entire time I kept giving them the benefit on the doubt because they were a new company. But each time I got a new Ellie company ambassador contact I’d wonder, why do their employees keep leaving? I finally deleted my ambassador coupon and link off my blog side bar because they said they weren’t offering discounts anymore thru links and they didn’t’ have an ambassador pgoram. (when I asked about it online last month, someone said they were still an ambassador, so who knows??!!)

I can’t recommend their site any longer to people because I feel its really deceitful to charge peoples credit cards and then wait 3-6 weeks to ship products to people!! They have always had slow shipping, but its absolutely ridiculous to not even SHIP a product out until a month later!! (and supposedly they said they had all the products in their warehouse to ship so that people didn’t have to wait so long) Then its another week or two before I get my package after they ship. When customers ask for tracking info or shipping updates, they are given false information or never answered on facebook.

Back in December, they revamped their website and overnight totally changed their ordering and subscription packages without notifying or telling any of their customers!! One day you could order 2 pieces for 49.95 with free shipping, the next day they offered package deals for 49.95 and UP! and some customers have to pay for shipping now. It appears they were copying the exact structure and ordering guidelines as Fabletics. Hmmm… I liked having the flexibility to order 2 pants or 2 tops every month-any two pieces, not an outfit of a top and bottom that was pre selected and matched by the company. 🙁

So I didn’t order anything from Ellie for Jan or Feb as I waited for them to work out the kinks of the new ordering and got things under control. On March 1st I placed an order from their new collection, a top and bottom…actually honestly I don’t even remember what I ordered, seriously!! and its March 28th and I have no package from Ellie and no shipping info from them. and of course my credit card was charged on March 1st! -sigh-

I LOVE Ellies colors and designs (for the most part) which is why I’ve ordered from them almost every month and stuck with them thru all the company changes-multiple changes.. the quality of the pieces and stretch is fantastic! I wear Ellie exercise tops and bottoms (I have mostly bottoms) multiple times a week!

But sadly I don’t feel like I can recommend them or that I should even bother ordering from them anymore. I’m sad because its a great concept to have a monthly exercise clothes subscription…I guess I’ll just stick to Old Navy and Kohls active wear when it goes on sale.

Have you had any experiences with Ellie or Fabletics?? What did you think?
