MY REVIEW:
I love holiday books and I have read other books by this author so I was excited to read this book.This story is book 12 in the “Shores of Indian Lake” series but they can be read as stand alone books. I have only read one other book in this series and I really enjoyed it!

Joy returns to Indian Lake after receiving news about her Grandfather. Joy hadn’t been back since her parents had passed away because of all the memories, including leaving Adam behind. Joy has a hard time temporarily leaving her job and fiancee behind in New York to take care of her grandfathers estate and belongings; but as she stays, the harder it is for her to think about leaving again.

I liked reading about the greenhouse and what is involved with a poinsettias greenhouse-it was really interesting! I also liked Adam and his son Titus. They were great characters and I loved how kind and giving he was to the people around them. Adam was a great father figure and a great example of how parents make sacrifices for their children-especially when faced with being a single dad.

This was a sweet romance about second chances, family, and making a home with the people around you. I really enjoyed reading it!

“To Die, To Sleep” by Stephanie Black

“To Die, To Sleep” is a suspenseful book with great (and creepy!) characters. The cover of the book drew me in right away and I knew it would be an edge of my seat kind of book. I have read other books by this author and have enjoyed them.

Natalie is a psychologist so she thrives on studying people and trying to figure them out. Even crazy people don’t alarm her but when she stays at Ellsberg Keep, its a whole new level of “crazy”. Things aren’t as they seem and there’s several twists and turns. I really enjoyed reading it! Steady murder mystery plot which kept my interest from beginning to end. I liked that the chapters alternated between different character’s point of view. Once you start reading, you won’t want to stop!

Author Bio:
I’ve enjoyed making up stories since I was a child, when my sisters and I would play long Barbie games full of intrigue and danger, or write and direct plays for ourselves and our younger siblings. I took a creative writing class in high school, but my stories stunk, since I hadn’t yet figured out that a story needs a plot. An encouraging comment from the teacher got me rolling in the right direction (thank you, Mrs. Owen!) and my final story for that class eventually developed–after many years, much studying of fictional technique, and countless hours of writing and rewriting–into my first published novel: The Believer, a dystopian thriller, was published in 2005 by Covenant Communications.
Four of my contemporary mysteries are Whitney Award winners for Best Mystery/Suspense, and my second dystopian novel was a Whitney Award Finalist for Best Speculative Novel. My novella “An Eye for an Eye” was part of the RONE Award-winning anthology Timeless Romance: Autumn Suspense collection.
My husband Brian and I have five children, two children-in-law (with one more on deck), and a rather majestic cat. I love spending time with my family, enjoy homemade pizza and anything chocolate, and have recently developed a fondness for LEGO projects. I play the violin in a community symphony (but never practice enough), and always have unmatched socks, post-laundry. At the center of everything that matters most is my love for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

MY REVIEW:
I have been reading author Terri Blackstock’s books for years and love her clean, suspenseful novels. From chapter 1 until the end, this story captivated me with the characters, story line and tragic drama that took place in the town of Carlisle.

I liked the main character Nate and his bravery and I liked reading about his job as a smoke jumper and what was involved. He was a strong, kind character and I liked how compassionate he was with Brenna and her kids.

Brenna frustrated me at times with her drinking and “poor me” attitude but as a former single mom, I could relate to alot of her anger and feelings of hopelessness and sadness. Sometimes I wanted to yell at her to get it together for the sake of her kids because I knew the ex-husband was just using his kids for show and it would just be a matter of time before he got bored with them and sent them home.

I liked the twists and turns and relatable characters. Although tragic events took place, forgiveness and love helped heal them which was a nice story element. This story wasn’t as suspenseful as some of her other stories (it had more drama with some mystery), but I still loved it!

MY REVIEW:

This cowboy romance was about second chances and learning to forgive and move forward. This story is part of the “Sweetheart Ranch” series but can be read as a stand alone book.

Tanner and Jewel end up working at the same ranch a year after they called off the wedding due to a big scandal. As they work together, secrets continue to unfold as they try to work on their relationship for the sake of their daughter.

This story was emotional, real and heart breaking at times but well worth reading. Relationships are hard but when adding family drama, lies, secrets and children; it can be very overwhelming and easy to just give up.

I liked reading about the ranch, barrel racing and the horses. The setting of the book was beautiful and I especially loved that it centered around the holidays. I really enjoyed it!

“Maggie’s Place” by Annette Haws

This story alternated between Maggie, a woman in her 70s; and Carly a homeless teen in downtown Salt Lake City Utah and how their stories intertwine. Maggie lives in Eagle Gate Apartments where she and her friends get together to go walking, play games and help each other with day to day chores. Throughout the book, past parts of Maggie’s life with her kids Kristen and Henry are mentioned along with current events which help them work towards healing and forgiveness.

I found this book somewhat depressing-I was hoping for more of a lighthearted holiday story. The parts about SLC Utah with crime, schemes and homeless teens was very accurate, sad and unfortunately real life. The characters and story line were believable and likable, but the story just wasn’t for me.
