MY REVIEW:
I enjoyed reading this simple Amish fiction book. I enjoyed reading about the characters in Ellie’s hometown and her love for the bakery. I was reminded reading this story how different Amish lives are to Englishman. I grew up in an Amish community so I love reading about their lives and struggles and families.
I liked the underlining theme of forgiveness throughout the book. I haven’t read the previous book 1 in this series, but I still enjoyed the book and characters so I feel it can be read as a stand alone novel. I enjoyed reading it!

Ellie’s Surprise Cookies
1 cup shortening 2 cups rolled oats (quick cook)
1 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon soda
1 ¼ cup brown sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon cinnamon 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
2 eggs 2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt
Sift dry ingredients. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Stir in dry ingredients. Add oatmeal, vanilla and chocolate chips. Dough will be crumbly. Spoon a teaspoon of dough at a time on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

Falling for the Cowboy Dad (Home to Eagle’s Rest) by Patricia Johns
This was such a good book-I loved it! and the cover of this book goes along perfectly with the story!
I loved the friendship of Grace and Billy although it was frustrating at times with their lack of communication regarding their feelings for each other. I liked reading about Billy’s experiences with fatherhood and coming to terms with his own mother and childhood. I liked that this story was realistic to life including complicated relationships, family, wondering about the future, parenthood, etc.
Very well written, great story line, wonderful characters…highly recommend! I read it in one night because I loved it and didn’t want to stop reading. Clean womens fiction with no language or explicit scenes.

“How the Light Gets In” by Jolina Petersheim
This book was longer (almost 400 pages) so it took me a couple of days to read. The characters were great, but the story line was tragic from beginning to end, so a part of me wanted to just stop reading because I hate sad books! I kept reading though to see how it was going to end and if Ruth would get her “happy ever after”.
Unfortunately, life isn’t “happy” or good for alot of people and although I didn’t like the ending to this story, I don’t know what I would have done in Ruth’s shoes if it had happened to me in real life.
The story was very well written with a great story setting about God’s love, second chances, grief, and forgiveness.

MY REVIEW:
I enjoyed this story even though I haven’t read other books by this author or series. It can be read as a stand alone story.
Africa is such a different culture and way of life than the USA, so I had a difficult time at first getting into the story and characters. Once I got in the flow of reading, I enjoyed reading about Chad and his determination to protect the people around him even though he’s an injured Marine. I enjoyed reading about the culture and way of life and the different struggles and dangers they face there.
Good story line and characters! Clean romance. I enjoyed reading it!
