“The House of Stone and Ivy” by Anita Stansfield

“The House of Stone and Ivy” by Anita Stansfield

I really liked this book! The story was interesting and fun to read and the characters were likeable. I especially loved Hennie and Lottie’s friendship through out the entire book. Although they both had a terrible upbringings and past; they didn’t let that define them or ruin their future. They continued to be kind, trustworthy, and hard workers which served them well later in life.

The story had some romance and drama but overall; it was just a good, clean, historical fiction book. Very well written-would recommend!

About the Book
Orphaned as children, Hennie and Lottie share an unbreakable friendship. Together, they suffered the horrors of orphanages and the workhouse, and now grown, they continue to rely on each another. When Lottie approaches Hennie about a possible position at a manor house, Hennie is eager to work alongside her dear friend. However, to secure the positions as stable hands, they will have to undergo a bold act of deception: the women must disguise themselves as men.

Upon arriving at the manor, Hennie is stunned. Her new position is at Ivy Manor—the beautiful estate where her mother was employed long ago and where Hennie was raised until her mother’s death. Hennie has wonderful memories of her friendship with the son of the house, Jack, and is shocked and dismayed to learn he has vanished. Living in disguise at the manor allows her to gradually uncover the truth of Jack’s disappearance and eventually find him. Both Hennie and Jack are thrilled to be reunited, and their friendship is renewed. Soon, their relationship blossoms . . . and threatens their determination to remain concealed. With so much at stake, will they be prepared to risk everything for love?

“Saving Susannah Jones” by Carolyn Frank

“Saving Susannah Jones” by Carolyn Frank

This story was set in the Colorado plains during 1890s and follows the story of Susannah and her brothers. After a tragic fire, Susannah finds herself needing help and no where to go. She meets some kind towns people who take her in and show her love and kindness even when her family shows her none.

I loved the simpleness of the story line and characters. It was enjoyable to read about Susannah and Josephs lives and them getting to know each other thru service and kindness. I liked reading about their farm and the day to day activities during that time period.

Good steady plot, historical fiction with clean romance-would recommend!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

About the book:
In the still of a cool Colorado evening, the Circle J Ranch house burns to the ground, leaving Susannah Jones and her two brothers orphaned and homeless. Embittered by the tragedy, Susannah’s older brother grows increasingly cruel, leading Susannah to make the difficult choice to leave the last of her family behind to forge a new life for herself. It is the kindness of Dr. Kate, the woman physician in town, as well as a chance meeting with a rugged homesteader that give Susannah the strength she needs to escape.

When Joseph Iverson encounters the harassed young woman on his land one day, he has no thought but to provide the assistance she so clearly needs. Overcoming his shyness, he takes Susannah under his wing and agrees to a marriage of convenience to liberate her from her brother. As the pair works side by side, their mutual admiration deepens. But their happy existence is threatened all too soon by a series of “accidents” on the farm. With danger looming ever closer, Susannah and Joseph must discover who is bent on their destruction before the life and marriage they’ve built together goes up in flames.

MY REVIEW:
“Loving the Texas Negotiator” is book 3 in the Garrison’s Law series by Mary Connealy. I have read all 3 books in this series, in order, but they can be read as stand alone stories.

I liked the story line and it kept my interest from beginning to end with a good steady plot. Due to the nature of the crimes mentioned in this book (Valentine Day serial killer) I wouldn’t recommend it for young adult readers.

This story follows Beth Garrison who is a top negotiator in Rocky Ridge Texas and who is asked to serve on a task force with officer Tate McCade. Beth and Tate are thrown together in chapter 1 during the middle of a crisis and neither start off with a good impression of one another.

I had a hard time liking the main female character in all 3 books, including this one. I felt like the women were very strong, aggressive leaders-a little over the top for my liking. By the end of the stories they had all mellowed out and were more likeable.

Overall, I liked these stories and they were fun to read. I love the concept of having multiple books in a series that includes a specific family and I liked getting to know the Garrison family.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

2019 Ambassador for Nuun-why I love it and what I use! #nuunlove #nuunlife

I am so excited that I was selected to be a NUUN ambassador this year! I’ve been using their products for years and love them! I love that they are gluten free, dairy free, and DYE free-meaning no artificial colors and preservatives which is really important to me! They taste good and are easy to use. Just split the tablet in half and drop both halves into a water bottle.

They offer 4 products in a variety of flavors.

I have a Vitamin tablet every single day to prevent me from getting sick.

If I’m around sick people or feeling “on the edge” I will have an Immunity tablet.

Before my morning workouts I will typically have an Energy Electrolyte tablet. I am very sensitive to caffeine and their energy line does not bother me at all and it is not habit forming.

Like I said, they offer a variety of flavors of all their product lines and I absolutely love them!

Have you tried any NUUN products?

Nuun’s four product lines: Nuun Electrolytes, Nuun Vitamins, Nuun Performance, and Nuun Immunity (coming to Canada 2019)!

💧Electrolytes: use it before/during/after your workouts
💧Vitamins: best for daily hydration with the vitamins we need for general health
💧Performance: best for intense workouts as well as exercise over 90 minutes
💧Immunity: best for immune system support and to kick the sick!
