“The Marriage Counseling Workbook” by Emily Cook PhD LCMFT

The Marriage Counseling Workbook: 8 Steps to a Strong and Lasting Relationship by Emily Cook

In this step by step program, readers will identify what is causing pain in the marriage, learn how to alleviate it, and confidently prevent it in the future. The content of each chapter is similar to what a reader would encounter attending a marriage counseling course with this author.

The author explains that the book is divided up into two parts. The first part explores conflicts and factors that have shaped the marriage. The second part presents an eight step program for reconnecting, including tools to heal and strengthen the marriage. Some topics include finances, communication, intimacy, trust, etc.

This workbook can be used by one partner, but it’s best if both partners are trying to strengthen the marriage together.

I like that the author uses 4 specific couples from her previous counseling sessions as examples throughout this book. I also like all of the journaling questions, writing prompts, and quizzes. If you were doing this book with your partner, then you will need an extra book or notebook since there is not enough room for two people to answer questions and journal in the book.

I found this workbook easy to read and use-highly recommend!!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
