I participated this past October, for the 3rd time, the Salem VA half marathon and 8k race series. I was selected as a race ambassador which meant I received my race entry complimentary so I could share my training, race recap, honest opinions and share a special discount code with my readers.
This is one of my favorite races every year and I plan on participating again this year. An 8k distance isn’t very common so I love that they offer it, instead of the usual 5k length option. I love the rolling hills and scenic views of downtown Salem. It’s absolutely beautiful!
This year my husband and my 8 year old joined me. This was my sons longest race and he did AMAZING! I thought for sure he would get a medal for his age group, but he did not-he was really close though!
Did you see the amazing medals they offered this year as well? They really took a step up this year with their shirts and medals!
Packet pickup was downtown salem at the farmers market. It was quick and easy getting my race packet-they were very efficient!
My race experience this year was great as always…they start on time, mark the roads very clearly for the half marathon and 8k distances, friendly volunteers, LOVE the chick fil a sandwich at the finish line, awesome medals, and a recovery stretching station which I always take advantage of!
If you are wanting a challenge from the usual 5k local races, I would highly encourage you to walk or run the Salem 8k race this year!
