“The White City” review & giveaway!

MY REVIEW:
I really didn’t know what to expect with reading this book. I found it to be a good mixture of intrigue, romance, Christian fiction, and historical true crime-all wrapped into one story.

Winnifred, the daughter of a Chicago Police Inspector, sees a woman kidnapped at the local Chicago World Fair and immediately wants to investigate. However, her father and his colleagues don’t believe her because she’s known for her love of novels and is dismissed. She convinces her father to allow her to go undercover to get to know the Doctor who she suspects is the kidnapper of the woman. Together with Police office Jude, they try to uncover what’s really happening in their area.

I loved Winnifred’s character-lots of spunk and determination. There were other elements to the story besides trying to find out who the kidnapper was… Jude trying to find his brothers killer. Winnifred trying to find a husband among suitors. Both of them trying not to get killed…

Although this isn’t my usual genre of books that I read, I found it fascinating and was shocked to learn that the story was based on an actual serial killer from the late 1890s!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

She tries to convince her father, an inspector with the Chicago police, to look into reports of mysterious disappearances around the White City. Inspector Wylde tries to dismiss her claims as exaggeration of an overactive imagination, but he eventually concedes to letting her go undercover as secretary to the man in question—if she takes her pistol for protection and Jude Thorpe, a policeman, for bodyguard.
