“Catherine’s Intrigue” by Paige Edwards

“Catherine’s Intrigue” by Paige Edwards

Catherine is intrigued with family history and old historic homes and their designs. She travels to England to visit her brother so she can work on their family history and find clues in locating a missing ancestor. Her family has spent generations researching their missing heritage but to no avail.

This story had a good, interesting pace with a strong female lead character. Despite opposition and danger, she keeps going! I also enjoyed the other main characters Nick and Jack (her brother). Since this story is set in England the characters use alot of British terms, which sometimes made it difficult to to understand what they were talking about, but I caught on quickly. I loved reading about the homes in that area and descriptions of the countryside.

I enjoyed this historical suspense with clean romance novel. It is also a LDS fiction which means some religious beliefs and references to “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints” are mentioned throughout the book.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

About the Book:
To fulfill her mother’s last request, twenty-four-year-old historic design specialist Catherine Pressley-Coombes travels to England in order to investigate an elusive family line. Armed with an illegible diary, she is determined to discover the identity of her mysterious ancestress. Distracted by an Elizabethan manor and unused to British country roads, Catherine runs her car into a ditch. Luckily, Nick Davidson, a handsome, hard-working local rides in on his tractor to save the day. As the down-to-earth manager of his family’s estate, Nick also happens to be one of England’s most eligible aristocrats.
Nick is certainly not the kind of man Catherine would fall for a man dogged by media and rumor. So why does she find the English lord so irresistible? Even though she can’t overlook their differing values and beliefs, as she and Nick spend time together, their attraction deepens. While she battles through romantic turmoil, Catherine is beleaguered with far more sinister concerns: a series of unexplainable misfortunes that are not mere accidents. With her heart on the line, Catherine discovers her life is in jeopardy, and she has no idea who the perpetrator is but she has a growing suspicion that the danger might be connected to whatever secrets lie hidden in her ancestor’s diary.

Talented new author Paige Edwards has created an exciting world of high society, complete with dark secrets, budding romance, and heartbreaking decisions that will keep every reader turning the pages.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

robin patchen

Aside from her family and her Savior, Robin Patchen has two loves—writing and traveling. If she could combine them, she’d spend a lot of time sitting in front of her laptop at sidewalk cafes and ski lodges and beachside burger joints. Alas, time is too short and money is too scarce for Patchen to traipse all over the globe, even if her husband and kids wanted to go with her. “Their Ranch Reunion” (Rocky Mountain Heroes) by Mindy Obenhaus

Their Ranch Reunion (Rocky Mountain Heroes) by Mindy Obenhaus

This is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Heroes series and is the first book that I have read by this author. I really enjoyed it!!

This story featured the Stephens family, Carly and her daughter Megan. Carly and Andrew use to be best friends (and dated!) in high school but drifted apart after college. Carly stayed home in the small Colorado town, married, had a child, and then became widowed. 20 years later Andrew comes home to start renovations on his Grandmothers Livie’s house which is next door to Carly’s bed and breakfast.

Carly was a great character who was very compassionate and giving towards everyone. I loved the small town feel where everyone helps everyone, especially in a crisis. I loved the chemistry and friendship between Carly and Andrew through out the story and how they worked together despite their differences.

I loved getting to know the Stephens family-the dad and his 5 boys. I hope there will be other stories in this series involving the brothers and the small town of Ouray. Romantic, feel good, christian fiction book-highly recommend!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

About the Book:

But Carly’s too stubborn to persuade—and too beautiful to ignore. When fire ravages her inn and she and her daughter move in to their shared property, Andrew’s in over his head. “The White City” review & giveaway!

MY REVIEW:
I really didn’t know what to expect with reading this book. I found it to be a good mixture of intrigue, romance, Christian fiction, and historical true crime-all wrapped into one story.

Winnifred, the daughter of a Chicago Police Inspector, sees a woman kidnapped at the local Chicago World Fair and immediately wants to investigate. However, her father and his colleagues don’t believe her because she’s known for her love of novels and is dismissed. She convinces her father to allow her to go undercover to get to know the Doctor who she suspects is the kidnapper of the woman. Together with Police office Jude, they try to uncover what’s really happening in their area.

I loved Winnifred’s character-lots of spunk and determination. There were other elements to the story besides trying to find out who the kidnapper was… Jude trying to find his brothers killer. Winnifred trying to find a husband among suitors. Both of them trying not to get killed…

Although this isn’t my usual genre of books that I read, I found it fascinating and was shocked to learn that the story was based on an actual serial killer from the late 1890s!
