A Portrait for Toni by Annette Lyon-Lds fiction book review

I really enjoyed reading this ebook by Annette Lyon.
I knew something wasn’t right with the main character Toni’s eating habits since I have studied alot about personal exercising and eating; so I wasn’t surprised that early on in the book it addresses her eating disorder. What I didn’t know was how serious an eating disorder can and is for alot of people. I thought it was something that could be overcome and not have to be dealt with again-like Chad, the other character in the book thought. I’m glad I got to know more about the seriousness of food addictions and disorders.
I liked the character dynamics of the book but I did feel that Chad’s constant love-sickness over the years towards Toni was a bit much and seemed a little “high school drama-ish”. I liked that this book showed alot of emotions for both Chad and Toni and their story felt very real. I loved reading about their life passions of drawing and dance. Easy clean reading!

Book Description

Publication Date: September 4, 2013
Toni has no idea what she’d do without her best friend, Carter. Who else would she be able to vent to about her parents, her job at the dance studio, or her latest relationship woes? When Toni’s father lands in the hospital, Carter, as always, is there for her.

That is, until he starts questioning Toni, saying he thinks she has an eating disorder. Then she starts dating Clint, the hot new guy at the studio, and somehow that puts a deeper wedge between her and Carter. When she’s hospitalized after an on-stage collapse, and Carter stupidly starts in with advice about food and weight, she sends him away—then instantly regrets it.

One night after a performance, Toni tries to mend the hurt between them. Instead of finding Carter, she stumbles onto proof that he has feelings for her that go way beyond those of a friend. Toni is left with the very real prospect of losing Carter forever, unless somehow she can return his feelings—but that’s impossible.

Isn’t it?

Armpocket Product review and GIVEAWAY!!

This week I was sent an ARMPOCKET complimentary to try for a blog product review. It came in the mail monday afternoon-perfect timing because I went to the park Monday evening for a 1.5 bootcamp timed run. 🙂
I’ve been using a black armband the past 2 years while I run so I could carry my iphone/otterbox case, which as you know is twice the size of the iphone so it takes a special case. I usually end up bringing a running belt (fancy name for a fanny pack) since I need to carry ID, tissues, inhaler etc.
A couple weeks ago I read a blog review on the Armpocket and I knew immediately I needed that product!! I only wish I had discovered it months ago before my half marathon!!
I picked out the I-30 product, size medium length (measure your arm and use their sizing chart) in color pink. Shipping was super fast!!
I was really impressed with the durability of this product and the foam cushy-ness that is part of the back and strap. I didn’t get any chaffing or marks from using the Armpocket. I was able to fit my iphone, inhaler, hylands leg tablets and id. It honestly didnt feel any more bulky on my arm than my old arm strap. It didn’t flop in place or feel heavy. Big plus!!
I was able to press all the buttons on my iphone thru the plastic top cover without any problems and I LOVE LOVE that its waterproof!!

Check out their website below!! You can use their comparison chart to figure out what style will work with the cell phone or device you want to use. This product can be used in place of a wallet, fanny pack, other running arm bands etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my armpocket!! Well worth the $39.95!!

Heres the Product Description for the I-30 product that I got!!

If you have a larger phone, plus additional items to carry, the Armpocket i-30™ armband is perfect for you. It holds large smartphones and cases, with room to spare for keys, cards, cash and more. Fits the new large smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy® S4, SIII and EVO™ with small cases and even iPhone® 5/5S/5C with Otterbox® or ballistic cases, and/or battery packs.
The model features 2 head-phone outlets (one on the bottom left and one on the bottom right), compatible with all phones, including iPhone 5/5S/5C.

  • Fits phones up to 5.5 inches (14 cm) including the Samsung Galaxy® S4 or SIII with a thin case or iPhones® in Otterbox® cases

Leslie Sansone Walk to the Hits: Radio Remixes product review

Last night I did a brand new (released last week!) Leslie Sansone indoor walking dvd. The dvd is 46 mins long-3 miles. Its called “Walk to the Hits: Radio Remixes”. Her dvd is considered advanced and features HIIT training throughout the dvd. The song selection was great!!! Actually-it was fanstatic!! I had so much fun doing the 3 miles-time goes by fast when the music and moves are fun. My 11 year old son did the first mile with me and he loved it too. The audience is mostly made up of younger walkers and the music is modern-sometimes music with words, sometimes just the beat. The music was still family friendly with no bad words, which is important to me. This probably would not be a dvd that an older generation of walkers would like because of the fast paced music-it is very different from her traditional dvds and music selection. There are also some new fun moves and of course the HIIT includes bouncing, shifting and jogging. I give it A plus and can’t wait for her “Walk to the hits: party songs” to be released in December.
I posted 2 short video clips of the dvd on my instagram page. (rdevaughn4)

I bought my copy online from walmart here:
The following content was provided by the publisher.
It’s a BIG Calorie Burning Walk Concert in your home! We’ve all heard it before. The most effective workout plan is the one you actually DO! But with all of the demands in everyone’s busy life, it’s not so easy to find the time and energy to exercise. Motivation is key, and music is one of the best motivators. Great music makes your workout more fun and keeps you exercising because you look forward to it. That’s why Leslie created “Walk To The Hits”. “Walk To The Hits” features hit music and High Intensity Interval Training (aka HIIT) – it’s the perfect combination! Hit music pumps up your pace, and HIIT training alternates between short bursts of “all out” effort and longer periods of recovery, allowing you to walk a shorter session while blasting away as many calories as you would in a longer one. A study published in The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness showed that women who completed a 12 week HIIT program lost more weight than a group who performed longer sessions of moderate intensity cardio. The HIIT group also lost more belly fat. In short, walking to the hits using HIIT training is a sure-fire way to fire-up your walk! For this program, Leslie remixed some of her favorite radio hits to a fitness beat and combined them with some fresh new “Walk At Home” moves to create one of the most fun 3 mile walks ever. The high-energy gang of walkers, the music, the moves, the miles, the smiles… It’s more FUN than anyone should have on a fitness walk.

I’m finally going to be starting Amanda’s bootcamp this coming Monday October 7th!!

I was doing my race training this summer so I haven’t been able to sign up until now. I have been loving Amanda’s posts on instagram for the past several months and have been very inspired by her pregnancy and able to workout and stay in shape during and after her pregnancy!! She’s definitely a super mom!!
My goal for this bootcamp is to lose the 10 pounds (or at least start losing pounds) that I gained during race training and to eat more healthy. I eat alot of carbs and I need to be having more protein. I’m also planning on keeping up with the 30 day Leslie Sansone walking challenge that I posted this past week. So far its been a challenge keeping up because we’ve all been very sick this week with severe colds/cough/congestion. 🙁
This is what it says on Amanda’s site about her boot camp:
Have you been working to get into shape, but are lacking the motivation and/or needing accountability? Do you have specific fitness or nutrition goals that you just can’t seem to reach on your own? Are you looking to shed excess fat, and aren’t sure what workouts are most effective? I am excited to bring you the best Boot Camp possible and help you reach your fitness and nutrition goals. My current Boot Camp ladies have been doing a fabulous job, and are seeing RESULTS. The 6 week Virtual Boot Camp will start on October 7.
What can you expect from my Boot Camp?

  • Affordable package option that is among the lowest cost option you’ll find
  • The focus, quality, intensity, and commitment you’d expect from me, a trainer with 9+ years of success!
Here’s how it works:
  • Six week Boot Camp starting at the middle of October.
  • Boot Campers will be expected to follow a 5 day per week workout plan that includes written workouts and hyperlinked videos.
  • Exercises will be appropriate for all levels with modified options for beginners. The workout will include plyometrics, running drills, and pilates.
  • Participants will be required to pay in advance and fill out all health forms, waivers, and liability forms before the Boot Camp begins
  • Participants will be required to log their food and do daily checkin’s with me via text or email.
The Boot Camp will be $120 payable via cash, check, or PayPal.
Throughout the 6 week bootcamp, I will be posting my progress and thoughts about how its going. I post lots of pictures on Instagram (rdevaughn4) if you want to follow my progress there as well.
