Pretty Muddy Obstacle Race-Richmond VA recap with lots of pictures!!

On Saturday my family and I drove 3 hours north to Chesterfield VA to Pocahontas State park for the Pretty Muddy Womens obstacle race. It was a perfect day! The weather was about 70 with bright blue skies. We had to drive on some back state roads to get to the park, which made me a little car sick, but overall it was a smooth drive. We got there around noon to check in, even though the family wave was at 1pm. There were plenty of parking spots available-I think because most of the women had already run for the day-but the parking attendants weren’t very informative as to where to park and what to do. We had to turn around twice because we didn’t know which was the start park entrance and which entrance was for the Pretty Muddy Race.

I checked myself (and my hubby and son) in the “Pretty Muddy Bloggers” check in section; got our bib numbers and we were all set! There wasn’t anything to do for 45 minutes so we walked around, took pictures, used the bathroom and sat on the grass to relax. Pretty Muddy had set up tents for the volunteers, merchandise, changing tent and water hose cleaning station. It was very organized and clean.
The last race for the day was at 1pm, which happened to be the only family wave. Pretty Muddy added the family wave option a couple weeks ago, which I thought was a really fun idea!! You can either run during the “women only” race waves with your gal pals, or run with you husband and kids during the family wave. I was able to get a race ticket for myself, hubby and son complimentary since I was chosen to be a Pretty Muddy Blogger this year. (Thank you Heather!)

At exactly 1pm, our race started. We ended up jogging on flat-trail like terrain. Some of the road had sand, some of it had rocks and dirt. They said the trails were usually used as Horse trails there at the state park. The first obstacle we came to was a big inflatable that you run through and bubbles were blowing on you, almost like a car wash. That was fun-I only got a little wet on my legs. My mother in law and 3 year old were there at the first station to wave at us and take pictures. (Thank you Gloria for spending the whole day with us and babysitting!)

The next obstacle was climbing up a giant inflatable and sliding down the water slide into a pool of mud. Ugh. There was no turning back. My shoes were wet and muddy, along with my lower half. I at least tried to keep my upper half and head dry from water and mud.

I had made a personal goal to do EVERY obstacle no matter what –even though I didn’t know what any of the obstacles were like.  It was a lot of fun doing it with my family. It took me the first couple obstacles to start having fun because I did not enjoy all the dirt and mud on me but once I got over that and realized I was already dirty and I could get cleaned up later-I was fine. My hubby thoroughly enjoyed rolling and jumping into the mud-he was a big fan!!

Once of the obstacles (pictured below) was a HUGE rope climbing thing. I did good going up it, but it took me a little bit to maneuver my body around to be able to get back down. I was a little afraid I would miss my step and fall through the ropes onto the ground and hurt myself.  A couple other obstacles were climbing up and back down wooden fences. I was fine with the mud because it was like a thick mulch mud.  Towards the end, there was another obstacle that I had to “swim” under the wooden fence and the mud was SO wet and soupy. I hesitated and totally cringed when my foot sunk into the mud up over my ankles. Ugh it was such a gross soggy feeling.  I am such a girl! LOL I had made it that far and had done every obstacle-I wasn’t going to quit now! I plopped down on my hands and knees cringing and went under the barrier. At that point I was still able to keep my neck and up clean which was nice because I really didn’t want to get mud on my face and hair. My hubby and son were throwing mud at each other and flopping around like pigs-it was so funny!

The walking in between the courses was nice; like I said it was all fairly flat and was shaded a lot because of all the trees. I walked most of it with some light jogging because I didn’t have my inhaler or water bottle with me.

The last obstacle was like the one before it-very very watery soupy mud. I saw my toddler standing there waiting for us so I went over to say hi before plunging into the last obstacle. He did not know what to make of me when he saw how dirty I was. I think he was a little concerned. I got through the last obstacle and had fun posing for muddy pictures. The volunteers met us at the end with water, snack bar and a medal! I love my medal-totally wasn’t expecting it! I should also add that there were 3 or 4 water stations throughout the obstacle course and every course had some Pretty Muddy Volunteers taking pictures and helping to make sure people were safe.

After taking several pictures, we went over to the water hose station to clean off. It easily took us 30 minutes to get cleaned off enough to walk to our car and get changed. It is very hard hosing off shoes and clothes from mud! My boys had a blast hosing themselves off-as much fun as doing the race. I love doing things with them, because they make everything fun! After changing and packing up the truck, we headed back home to Roanoke.

It was such a fun (And Pretty Muddy!!) day there at the State Park. I’m grateful I was chosen as a blogger so that we could experience the family Pretty Muddy experience. If you get the chance to attend one close to you, you won’t regret it!! The race was very organized with lots of volunteers to help with people shuttling to their cars, water stations, music, check in, etc. Let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever run a Pretty Muddy race and where. Hope you enjoy all the pictures for my race! I took alot! 🙂
At the State Park!

It was a little chilly so my toddler (who was sick) wanted to wear my Pretty Muddy sweatshirt.

My husband and I.

My husband, 11 year old son and I.

Family pic! getting ready to go check in.

Tractor shuttles to the starting line.

It actually fit our jogging stroller. It was nice to get a ride.

My mother in law came with us to help babysit and take pictures.

At the race!

I had a special check in line! 🙂

Taking pictures before the race before we get dirty.

Walking around taking pictures before the race started.

Hanging around before the race started.

And we’re off!! You can see my son in the red shirt in the far back left.

The first obstacle!!

My husband had a blast in the bubbles!

So did my toddler.

Approaching the finish line.

He did not want to touch me because I was so dirty.

Hesitating about the last obstacle.

My husband just jumped and rolled in it… ugh…

okay… here I go!

PRETTY MUDDY!!

Getting our medals at the finish line.

Getting cleaned up.

A little cold and waiting for our ride after getting cleaned up.

All dry and ready to head home.

Younique Beauty mineral makeup product review, GIVEAWAY, Younique versus Bare Escentuals, awesome 3D Fiber Lashes Kit!!

Jenny Palmer, beauty presenter for YOUNIQUE BEAUTY PRODUCTS came over to my house last night to bring me my “3d fiber lashes kit” I had won online through her and Macaroni Kid Roanoke.
I did some online research the day before she came over, about the company and their products because I wanted to see more of her beauty products. Although Younique is a very new company (about one year), I was really impressed with the comments and others blog reviews of their products. I am also impressed that they list their ingredients to every product AND what the ingredient actually is. How useful is that?!
So, we started my makeover by applying the new product-Brilliant Daily Moisturizing Gel.  It is so cool!! I scooped out a little white bead and smashed it between my two index fingers and then applied to my face. A little bit of product goes a long way and I was able to moisturize my whole face with one bead!  There is not a smell to this product after applying. When you open the jar however, it smells faintly like green peppers (because they don’t use fragrances) which was weird that a gel would smell like that, but it didn’t bother me at all. I loved this product!
Next we applied Moonstruck glorious eye and face primer. It felt silky smooth of my skin and eyes. I’m a BIG believer of eye primer (won’t wear eye makeup without it) but I don’t typically wear face primer because I feel like it makes my skin greasy feeling. Great product and I would recommend, but I personally don’t feel like I need it.

Then we applied another new product-BB Flawless complexion enhancer. “Apply this all-in-one moisturizer, treatment, and foundation as a single-step cream to immediately balance the skin, correct its complexion, and protect its youthful appearance. This multitasking cream moisturizes, perfects, protects, and works beautifully as a lightweight foundation on its own. It provides a flawless appearance and fights shine to give a natural-looking matte finish. Consider it your skin’s new best friend.” I really liked how this felt on my skin and I actually used this as my “foundation” instead of trying the Younique mineral foundation. The BB cream didn’t make me break out or itch my skin so I’m definitely getting this product! I used the color medium and in my opinion the color medium would be for light to medium skin tones-not a true “medium” because its usually too dark for my skin.
They do offer mineral foundation colors. See chart below. I have samples for 2 of the colors to try this week, but last night I did not try it because I was worried that too many products would make my skin break out.
Next, I applied the mineral blush. I can’t remember what color we used-maybe stunning?? but a little bit goes a long way so blend, blend, blend!
Then it was time for my eyes!! Jenny did my eyes and ended up using a look from online that she found for daytime (go to her Younique website and go under “browse looks” to get color pigment applying ideas).  All the pigments go on smoothly and like any mineral makeup, a little bit goes a long way so make sure to tap excess minerals off the brush before applying-otherwise you will get a lot on your skin.  I’ve been using mineral makeup for years, so I kind of a pro with applying without making a mess. J
Younique offers 15 “shimmery” eye pigments and 15 “matte” colors. I personally love all the shimmery ones because I love glittery colors-I’ve always have been a fan! I know as I age though, I’ll have to start using matte. But for now I’m gonna sparkle on!!

Next I applied my 3d fiber lashes.  Here is what it says on the website: Packaged in two separate bottles, the Transplanting Gel and Natural Fibers are used together to enhance and magnify your OWN lashes. Watch your lashes transform into something you only dreamed of! A 300% increase in thickness and volume to your lashes while still looking completely real and natural. Potentially “mood-altering” 3D Fiber lashes will quickly become your favorite makeup accessory!
Water resistant, yet easily washes off with warm water and facial cleanser.
Directions: To prepare your eyelashes for optimal results, first apply one thin coat of your own regular favorite mascara and let it dry. Then apply Moodstruck Transplanting Gel (containing conditioning collagen) to your lashes. Immediately following and while the gel is still wet, apply the Moodstruck Natural Fibers. Reapply the Transplanting Gel a second time to secure the natural fibers onto your lashes.

I also found their video clip helpful with applying their eye lash product:
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=67_2M54wSMI

I did not apply mascara first. I actually just applied the gel, then the fibers, then the gel to seal it. And I only did one coat!! LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE!! I am shocked!! This is for real people!! I saw the transformation before my very eyes!! LOL and it was fast too!! It’s like applying 2 or 3 coats of mascara and then done! It wasn’t messy and I personally didn’t have any problems with applying. Make sure to read the directions and maybe look at the video if you’re nervous applying.

Here are MY pictures:

Last to apply was another new product-Lucrative Lip Gloss. I picked the pink sparkly color “Lavish”. Loved it!! Going to buy it now even though I have a million things of lipgloss! It was so pretty and didn’t dry out my lips. They offer 10 different shades on their website.
They also offer Rose water, facial cleanser and brushes that I personally didn’t use to review. Actually Jenny did use the brushes on my face. They did shed a little at first, but they were soft and very effective with applying the makeup. I already have a great set of brushes so I won’t need them; but I think everyone needs a good decent set to apply makeup with. So if you don’t have a set, definitely look at their brushes!

This morning I applied another coat of the 3d fiber lashes and tried 3 more eye color pigments. I’ve posted some pictures on my instagram account (rdevaughn4) if anyone wants to see them.
My Thoughts:
  • I loved the website and ease of looking at products. I love that they list the ingredients and what each ingredient is used for!
  • I loved ALL the products that I tried. They worked with my super sensitive acne prone skin, so that to me says a lot!
  • Easy to apply!
  • The 3d lashes is AMAZING!! I have never used a product that even comes close! I love my Mally mascara and Bare Escentuals mascara the best-and applying this product makes my lashes even more powerful looking than my usual mascara! I will absolutely be buying this product when I run out!
  • They have a great selection of lipgloss colors, foundations and eye pigments. They added a lot more products just this month! I personally still have a lot of my mineral Bare Escentuals eye colors so  I won’t need to order very  many Younique pigments but would still love to try some of theirs.
  • I think this company will seriously take off in a major positive way if they keep true to their products being pure and keep their prices affordable. It would be fun to see seasonal, limited edition colors!
  • I honestly have nothing negative to say about my makeover experience and using their products. If you don’t like mineral makeup, at least check out the lipglosses, skin care and 3d fiber lashes!!

Now to the even more FUN PART!!
I’m hosting a 10 day Facebook Younique party!!
Heres a link to my party:

I would love for you to order from me as a hostess if you are interested in trying a product! If not, no pressure! That’s not why I wrote this blog review…

And Jenny has also offered to do a GIVEAWAY!!

One lucky person (must live in USA) will win a lucrative lip gloss of their choice!! Whooho!! How fun is that?
Check out her website to pick out what color you would want to win!

Review of Leslie Sansone NEW Just Walk 5 Mega Miles and upcoming Leslie October Challenge

I bought this new Leslie Sansone dvd last month at walmart (it was released in August) and I did all the miles but at different times over a week period. So last night I decided to do the entire dvd from start to finish so I could take pictures and do a blog review on it.

The Dvd was released last month and is pictured below. It comes with one resistance band. I’m not sure what the weight of the band is but it doesn’t seem that “heavy”.

Chapters of the dvd. You can play the full workout or pick individual miles.
you can also choose to “play with music only” so you don’t hear Leslie talking.
I personally don’t mind her talking so I just do the play full workout option.

Mile 1-classic low impact. No bands used.

Mile 2-walk and tone. The band is used for this mile.
I did not wear gloves like they did in the dvd, but its always nice to have them.

Mile 3-speed intervals. No band used.
I like her dvds that use speed intervals because I like the jogging aspect and getting my heart rate up a little more.

Mile 4-strength intervals. Band is used for this one.

Mile 5-ab walk. No bands.

My Overall thoughts:
  • The music is good (not great)-just music though, no words. I’m glad they have updated their music selection for the past couple of years of dvds. Her older ones (which I do love also) have more “elevator music”.
  • Price is good-check out walmart or amazon. Love that they included the band even though I have a million bands already.
  • I got a time of 81:35 for the dvd. 3 min warm up, 15 min miles for mile 1-5 and 3 min cool down. She has a timer on the screen counting down from 10 minutes for every mile, which is helpful so you know how much longer you have for that mile.
  • She has all her basic moves and some new ones including the Cha cha, shifting and skater. She has alot of hand movement which is great to keep the heart rate up. If you can’t do all the shifting around or new moves, just walk in place instead of hurting yourself or trying to keep up. This is a faster pace walking dvd.
  • I did not feel like there was enough stretching at the end during or after the cool down so I had to do more stretching on my own.

I got an email last night that Leslie is doing a 30 day twitter challenge. See the email below.
