Share something that empowered you in 2016. Take a second to reflect and think about the things you did or learned in 2016.
What empowered you to be your best self? Was it learning a new skill? A major life event? Taking a leap of faith? How will you build on what you learned last year?

In 2016 I did some races that I never thought I could do. I started off doing a Ninja Challenge obstacle race in May which was one of the hardest races I’ve ever done. I trained for months on obstacles and weight machines at the gym to build my upper body strength. This race empowered me to participate in more obstacles races in 2016. This year I plan on doing the Ninja Challenge again, along with some other races and hope to do even better!

What is your biggest goal for 2017?
Are you going to run a race, start a business, commit to a healthier lifestyle, get outside of your comfort zone? Whatever your goal may be, think about the ways in which you will empower yourself to complete this goal.

I have several little goals this year like some upcoming races. But my biggest goal for 2017 is to focus on my eating! I want to focus on smaller portions, no sugar, and limit dairy and gluten. I have done this before and I feel SO much better-I just need to stay consistent with it.

I am turning 35 years old in May and I really want to get 20-25 pounds gone this year! I am the healthiest and strongest I’ve ever been in my life, however I am still considered overweight so I really need to focus on losing more weight and becoming toned.

What is one of your goals for 2017??

Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World by Karen Ehman

Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World by Karen Ehman

This book was filled with all kinds of fun and practical ways on how we can serve others, how to find the time to serve others, and how to bless others like the lonely or hard to love.

There were times when I was reading this book that I felt like some of the suggestions were unrealistic or over-the-top, but then I was reminded that the whole point of the book is for us to be more centered on other people and less centered on ourselves. We are so busy with our own lives that we don’t take the time to notice or help other people. I was reminded of the importance of this as I was reading this book.

I really liked the chapter on how to be a gracious host so that others will feel welcome and loved in your home. It gave me alot of good ideas that I hadn’t thought about before. The author uses her own examples-not to brag, but to show the reader examples of ways to serve or events that she missed serving others and that she now regrets.

I also liked chapter 3-it’s about time, giving of yourself, and listening for heart drops. Heart drops are little things that people share randomly during conversations, like a perfume that they like because it reminds them of an experience or memory of a loved one. The author encourages us to pay attention to peoples little heart drops around us so that it can give us ideas on how to serve them in the future.

The author mentions in chapter 1 that we need to live alert and read between the lines and try to listen to other people’s hearts so that we know how to help them when they’re going through trouble times or discouragement or when they are overwhelmed. In this chapter, the author talks about how we can live alert and why we need to treat people this way- listening, loving, and repeating that kind of behavior day after day. Hence the name of the book-Listen, Love, Repeat!

I agreed with her two reasons as to why we are here on earth. First, to have a relationship with God. Second, to point others to Jesus so that they can return to Heaven as well.

If we choose not to love and serve other people, then we are not being a good Christian example to them. Serving others and loving others is what God would want us to do. When we are too busy or selfish to help others, then we are losing out on blessings and the opportunity to serve and to be a witness to others.

About the book:
Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. (Can you say selfie?) But in this near-narcissism, people are less content than in decades past. Why? Because we forgot the joy that comes from putting others first. Doing so requires us to live alert, listening for “heart drops,” hints from those in our lives who need a helping hand or a generous dose of encouragement. Living alert lifts our own spirits, showing us that blessing others blesses us even more.

Listen, Love, Repeat offers biblical teaching and suggests doable actions that are simple, heart-tugging, sentimental, even sneaky and hilarious. This message:

• Presents scriptural examples of those who lived alert, including Jesus, who noticed those who least expected to be seen.

• Explains the role of good works for followers of Christ. They aren’t our ticket to heaven but they are our marching orders on earth.

• Gives creative ideas for showing love to friends and family, and suggests practical ways to reach out to the lonely, the marginalized, the outcast, and the odd duck. Additionally, it helps you comfort the grieving, showing what you can do when you don’t know what to say.

• Provides inspiration for blessing the “necessary people” in your life, those often-overlooked souls who help you get life done every day, and teaches you how to hug a porcupine by genuinely loving the hard-to-love.

As we scatter love, we create a safe space where we can openly share the gospel. We get to see lives changed right before our eyes. Most importantly, Listen, Love, Repeat will enable you to live a life that is full of kind deeds, not to selfishly shout, “Hey! Look at me!” but to humbly implore, “Will you look at Him?”

“Without Warning” Elite Guardians series *new Christian suspense by Lynette Eason

Without Warning (Elite Guardians #2) by Lynette Eason

This book was just as great as the first book in this Elite Guardian series! “Without Warning” is book 2 of 4 total books in author Lynette Easons’s new series.

The Elite Guardians make up a group of highly skilled women who are privately hired to protect others. In this book, Katie is hired by the niece of Daniel Matthews, the owner of a couple local restaurants. Because the niece is a friend of Katie, she takes a personal interest in Daniel’s cases. From murder to arson, no one really knows why Daniel is being targeted but the Elite Guardians and other people working his case keep getting hurt as the danger escalates.

This clean novel was very well written, fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I read it all in one day because I couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait to read books 3 and 4 that will be released in 2017.

About the book:
Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.

Daniel might be concerned, but he’s not convinced that a bodyguard–and a female one at that–is necessary. A new attack and his niece’s urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who’s behind the intimidation and threats–before a would-be killer strikes again.

Witty dialogue and a simmering attraction will have readers flying through this tension-laced thriller. Eason exercises complete control of her readers’ emotions as they race through the pages to discover the truth.

Forever and For Always (Windswept Bay #4) by Debra Clopton

This new series is set in Windswept Bay-beach area and introduces the 9 Sinclair siblings.

Brothers: Levi, Can, Jake, Max, Trent
Sisters: Cali, Shar, Olivia, Jillian

“Forever and for Always” is book 4 of the Windswept Bay. In the other 3 books we have already met Cali and Shar and this story is about Oliva. Olivia returns home after an embarrassing scandal with a Hollywood star only to run into another embarrassing situation once she returns home. Olivia is certainly not looking for romance but can’t deny the sparks once she meets her brother-in-laws’ brother named BJ.

This story has lots of drama and clean romance. The siblings are all interesting to read about and the different relationships they have with each other. This series has been so enjoyable! I can’t wait to read more!

About the book:
Publicist Olivia Sinclair has been away from Windswept Bay for years, busy helping the Hollywood elite get out of one scandal after another. But now, she’s in the middle of her own scandal and splashed all over the gossip tabloids. Suddenly, coming home to lay low in Windswept Bay is her own best advice to herself. Life as he knows it has just been altered for charter boat captain, Brandon “BJ” McCall. He’s just learned he has a brother and he’s inherited millions—complicated…just a little and he’s not exactly sure how he feels about either. But rescuing a beautiful, Pink Kitty shorty pajama clad female from the roof of her house is a complication he can enjoy. Being rescued by a stranger who could rival any of her Hollywood clients—isn’t exactly what Olivia had planned when she came home to hide out. Falling for the guy who, she learns is perfect tabloid material in his own right is not a smart PR move. She’s trying to get off the cover of the gossip magazines—not hold her spot for eternity! But it’s complicated. Especially, on the beaches of Windswept Bay where romance is in the air and love is a complication that just might be undeniable.
