How do you stay motivated?
The holidays and festivities are over and a lot of people are going through a January slump. What do you do to remind yourself to stick with your goals?

Every month I make up my personal fitness calendar using Microsoft word document. I plan out what days I will workout at home and what classes I will take at the gym. I figure out what days I will do my strength training and what days will be my race training and cardio days.

I keep myself accountable by posting my workouts on Instagram and here on my blog. I also log my workouts in my Fitbook nutrition and fitness tracker book so I can track my progress.

Sweaty selfie time.
There are very few things that empower us like a sweaty workout. Our team loves HIIT yoga, running, and boot camps.
What is your favorite way to workout this month?

On Wednesday January 4th I tried a new class with a friend. It was a dance fitness class. I felt so uncoordinated but it was a lot of fun!! I’m trying to do different classes and switch things up this year.

Who inspires you to be your most empowered self?
Is it your #wcw, boss, teacher, partner? How do they empower you? Now think about how you can start empowering others!

My children inspire me the most-to be my best self. 6.5 years ago after I had my son I was very obese. I was unhappy and very unhealthy. I couldn’t get up and down or walk around very good to play with my 2 boys. I was in a lot of pain as well, which after going to the doctor, I found out I was misdiagnosed for almost 10 years with gallbladder stones. After my gallbladder surgery I was finally able to walk around without pain so I started doing short home workouts and walking at home. I wanted to lose weight and be healthy and happy again for my family. I was able to lose almost 100 pounds in the first 3 years!

To this day they are still the ones who inspire me to be better and to eat better. They are always watching me and looking to me as the example. I now have a 15 year old and 6.5 year old boy who are very active and who love to workout with me. We love to stay active as a family!

Home on the Range: A Novel (Double S Ranch #2)by Ruth Logan Herne

This story is book 2 of 3 in the Double S Ranch Series. I read book 1 last year and really enjoyed it, especially since I love “series” type books. I was disappointed however in this book because it did not keep my interest like the first book did. I liked the main character Nick and his daughters because I read about them in book 1, but I couldn’t get into the other main character Dr Elsa. I felt like she was described way too weird and unrelatable. I actually didn’t finish reading the book because it just didn’t keep my interest.

Home on the Range is a western, christian romance story. It has good reviews online so it may be something of interest to others, but it wasn’t for me.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Book 1 (Back in the Saddle) book review here:
http://empowermoms.net/2016/04/back-in-the-saddle-a-novel-double-s-ranch-by-ruth-logan-herne.html

About the Book:
Can the brother left behind and a woman without hope work together for the good of two precious children?

Nick Stafford stayed in central Washington, working his family’s large ranch after his brothers left to pursue other passions—but his toughest job is being a single dad. As a child he watched his father fail at marriage and parenting, so Nick was determined to show him up. He’d be a better husband, father, and ranch manager than Sam Stafford ever was. Despite that commitment, three years after Nick’s wife left him, he has a daughter in trouble at school and both of his girls are facing issues that force him to rethink his stubborn plans.

For Dr. Elsa Andreas, life fell apart when tragedy caused her to abandon her family therapy practice and retreat to the backwoods of Gray’s Glen. Her school principal sister believes Elsa can guide the Stafford girls and that working with kids will draw Elsa out of her protective bubble.

Summer on the Double S teems with life and adventure. Amid the bounty of God and land, will Nick and Elsa find the courage to build futures based on faith rather than fear?
